Multi-cat households – why so much trouble?
Did you know, a lot of my cat behaviour queries are from multi-cat households?
If there are issues of aggression or conflict among the cats, a behaviourist such as myself, can observe and analyse the interactions between them. I am trained to understand feline behaviour and can assess the dynamics of the individual personalities of each cat in the household.
So, what are the common multi-cat issues?
Cats can have issues with their core territory which many will actively defend. It is so important to give them 
space to mark, scratch, hide, and play and ensure their key resources are being met and separated, especially resources such as litter and food (read more about this below).
What red flags might you be experiencing?
Unhappy multi-cat households can lead to cats suffering from high levels of stress and anxiety, these can manifest in their health and behaviour. You may find they spray as they urinate, over-groom or pick up common stress-related illnesses such as cystitis. They may even leave the house and look to settle elsewhere.
