Respect the Lead: Celebrating Our Photo Competition Winners

The Respect the Lead campaign has always been about real stories, from dogs and their humans who understand the importance of space, safety, and respect when out walking.
Over the last few months, we invited entries for our photo competition, asking people to share images that capture what Respect the Lead means to them. The response has been incredible.

Thank you to everyone who entered via Facebook, Instagram and email. The photos and stories you sent were heartfelt, honest, and inspiring, each one showing that behind every lead, there’s a reason.

Real Dogs, Real Stories: Our Winners

Among the entries were Kirstie and Reuben, whose story captured resilience and hope. Just five weeks after Reuben’s spinal surgery, they made it to their local castle — a huge milestone in his recovery.
Kirstie shared:

“The shot at the castle was such a significant moment. I was petrified about other dogs coming up to him, but once there, I could relax a little more. It was a real turning point for us.”

Other photos showed Reuben’s ongoing recovery: from standing outside his favourite pet shop to walking again in the deer park. Each one was a moment worth celebrating.

We also heard from Jess and Bow, who have faced challenges of their own. After an attack as a puppy, Bow became reactive: but through training, management, and understanding, Jess has helped her find calm and confidence again.

“We’ve had 1.5 years without a single incident,” Jess wrote. “People might think I’m over the top, but Bow’s lead is what keeps her and others safe. She’s living her best life now.”

Their honesty and commitment perfectly represent the spirit of Respect the Lead.

We were also delighted to hear from:

  • Elaine, with her two beautiful whippets (read their story here).
  • Jo and Luna, whose photos showed their gentle bond.
  • Kim and Teddy Paws, familiar faces from a previous Respect the Lead interview.
  • Samantha and Jackson, who shared their everyday walking experiences.
  • Laura and Kenny, who wrote about the challenges of living in an area where not all dog owners understand the importance of recall and space:

“My little guy Kenny was pinned to the floor by an off-lead dog. It’s a massive cause of stress and anxiety — I wish more people would put their dogs on a lead.”

And of course, we couldn’t forget Dylan, the dog who inspired this entire campaign.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who entered and shared their story. The response has been truly inspiring, and although we can only showcase a small selection, every entry makes a difference. We will be in touch with the winners soon, as the campaign continues.
