Unfortunately, many pet owners do not believe that having their pet vaccinated is important. This can be for various reasons, such as thinking that vaccinations make no difference, aren’t safe, or are simply a way for vets to make more money.

The truth is that vaccinations do make a huge difference to both your pet and the general population.

The use of vaccinations, also commonly known as jabs or shots, has helped protect pets from potentially deadly diseases, and helped prevent others from catching them. There are many once common illnesses which have now been all but eradicated thanks to vaccinations stopping them from spreading.

If owners were to stop vaccinating their pets, then it is likely we would see many of these illnesses and diseases making a comeback. This would lead to many more pets becoming ill and in need of serous treatment.

Booster Jabs

As well as their primary vaccination course when young, it is equally important to continue protecting your pet with regular booster jabs. Whilst some are required yearly, others will be less frequent, if you haven’t already then you should speak to your vet about when your pets next booster is due.

Even if your pet hasn’t had a booster in a long time, or you aren’t sure when they last had their jabs, then you should still speak to your vet. They will be able to advise on how to restart your routine and whether a primary vaccination course will be required.

If you are concerned about safety or an allergic reaction to vaccination, then this is something you vet will also be able to advise on. Generally speaking, vaccinations are very safe. They are developed and produced under strict rules to ensure that they are as safe as they can be for your pet.

Whilst in some very rare cases a pet may experience an allergic reaction, the vast majority of pets have their jabs without any issue at all. And the benefit protection against potentially fatal conditions far outweighs the small risk involved.
