The National Cat Awards 2018 Winners

The National Cat Awards winners have been announced!

The National Cat Awards are held annually by feline charity Cats ProtectionNational Cat Awards 2018 Logo and feature multiple categories including Outstanding Rescue Cat, Hero Cat, Most Caring Cat, and Furr-ever Friends.

This year’s overall winner was eight-year-old cat Theo from Redditch, Worcestershire. As a kitten, Theo suffered with a near fatal case of cat flu, and only survived due to round-the-clock care from owner Charlotte Dixon.

Many years later, Theo went on to detect a blood clot in Charlotte’s body. Theo kept his owner awake in the middle of the night, which is thought to have saved her life.

Sadly, Theo passed away just a week before the ceremony, where he was to be awarded winner of the Purina® Better Together category, and be announced as the overall National Cat of the Year 2018.

A night to remember

The ceremony took place at The Savoy, London, and was live streamed on Facebook for those who could not attend. The awards were hosted by Alan Dedicoat, known for being the announcer for the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing. The celebrity judges included Andrew Collins, Jessica-Jane Stafford, Peter Egan and Paul Copley.

Winners of other categories included the following –

  • Salem, winner of the Furr-ever Friends category – Who helps his young owner Jared cope with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
  • Arthur, winner of the Most Caring Cat category – Who helps support her owner Emily who has undergone treatment for severe mental health issues.
  • Toby, winner of the Hero Cat category – Who is able to detect when owner Annette is about to suffer a seizure.

It’s amazing to hear all of the inspirational stories from the owners of these truly incredible cats! A huge congratulations goes out to all of the winners!
