Clipping and Administering Medication
It has been a busy month as always within The Friendly Pet Nurse team and we wanted to share some recent highlights.
Clipping, not just cats
When it comes to grooming and clipping hair it’s not just cats that require some of my attention but guinea pigs too. In fact, any long-haired pet can benefit from a clip during the hot summer months. I always lion clip my own cats as this can help grooming, and reduce hairballs and is great for those more senior cats who may find age and arthritis hinder their ability to groom all over. It is also the same with their claws, as senior cats can be less active, and their nails can grow thicker. These are two popular services this time of year. Book an appointment with me to pop into your home so your pet feels much more comfortable. With over 30 years of veterinary nursing experience, I can put your pet at ease and sort through these grooming issues, saving you time without an unnecessary trip to the vet.
Administering treatment
As a qualified VN, I can offer a wide range of services for pets with specialised medical conditions. Services such as injections for diabetic cats, that can require two injections and cat-sitting cats whose needs require medication while they are away.
Recently I have helped Jo with their cat who has kidney disease:
“I contacted Zoe a couple of months ago as my elderly cat had been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney disease and the vet suggested subcutaneous fluids as a way to help support her kidneys. We quickly established a thrice-weekly routine where Zoe would come to my house and administer the fluids (my cat tolerated it very well). I honestly believe that this has helped improve the quality of life for my cat in the limited amount of time she has left. In addition, Zoe has helped with giving my cat her pills and gave useful advice about cat behaviour (particularly around feeding). Zoe herself is friendly but also offers comforting professionalism when discussing pet matters”.
And previously Sue with her two cats who needed medicating, clipping and cat-sitting:
“Zoe was recommended by staff at my vets. I have 2 cats, Lottie and Betty. Lottie is diabetic with an overactive thyroid and needs tablets and insulin injections twice daily. Lottie is nearly 18 and Betty is 12, neither of them have ever stayed in a cattery. I have always relied on friends if I went away but with the onset of Lottie’s diabetes, I felt like the responsibility was too much to ask especially as she has suffered 2 hypos. Holidays went on hold!!!
When I first met Zoe I was very impressed. As a qualified Veterinary Nurse, she specialised in diabetes and her attention to detail was obvious. She made lots of notes on each cat asking lots of questions. In truth, she was a godsend and most importantly they loved her.
I was off, my 1st holiday in 3 years, no worries about their care knowing they were safe and happy with Zoe. She came in twice a day to feed, attend to litter trays and give Lottie her medication. Zoe can also do blood glucose tests if required. Her rates are very reasonable and extremely good value. Lottie also appreciates having her claws clipped at home without having a journey to the vet. Peace of mind means so much if I go away. Meeting Zoe was the best thing ever for me, Lottie and Betty. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.”
