Did you know, the average cat will go to the toilet 3-5 times a day? From 7 weeks of age have a natural instinct to go to the toilet in material then can dig and bury, ie. cat litter.

“Evolving from the African Wildcat, cats would prefer to toilet using fine sand-like areas. Think about this when choosing your cat litter. A lot of them out there is to appeal to us not necessarily the cat.”

Cats prefer litter that is sandy, but wood pellets are also rated highly by cats.

Cleaning your trays

Scoop out daily or scoop out clumps, if you are using a clumping type. Clean the whole tray at least once a week with cat-friendly cleaners. Beware, scented litter and scented cleaners may put your cat off using the tray.

Where and how many?

Put your litter box somewhere quiet, they don’t like to be disturbed while going! It also shouldn’t be close to their food or water.

A tray or box needs to have enough room for your cat to move around and turn, so if you have a big breed consider a plastic storage container or garden tray.

More than one cat? You will need a litter tray for each and ideally, an extra one as cats like to pee and poo in different places.
