Save the stress! Claw Clipping for Senior Cats
It’s not easy trimming your own fingernails and toenails, let alone those of your feline friends! Worried about trimming them too short, needing specialist clippers, and of course, making your cat feel comfortable whilst doing them. That’s why I offer a claw cutting service, to ensure your pet is comfortable and less stressed in their own environment whilst having their claws attended too.
Claw issues may come as a surprise to those with older cats, as often difficulties with movement and hearing may be easier to spot. Senior cats are classed as being eight years and older, which can vary on the breed. As cats in their older years get less active they tend not to wear their claws down as much, so a trim from time to time will help. They also tend to grow quicker and thicker once they enter their golden years.
Cats use their claws not only for climbing but also self -defence, they also mark their territory and hunt with them. Senior and elderly cats can lose the ability to retract them, so claws look longer than they actually are. They may not wish to use a scratching post due to their stiff joint pain, so it is up to you to help them get the maintenance they need. You may also wish to consider a horizontal or angled post to aid scratching and save the furniture.
If cats claws are allowed to overgrow cats can experience discomfort and difficulty walking. Claws grow in a curved shape, without trimming they can grow and curl under the paw pad and at worse into the pad.
Trimming older cats claws will benefit them in so many ways, it is also a great opportunity to chat through other concerns you may have and also discuss making some changes in the environment to help as they age.
By coming to your home your senior cat can feel more relaxed in their own environment, with a range of special tools and clippers, claws can be examined, checked and trimmed whilst also checking for infections or problems.
